Smart Actions powered by Apple Intelligence

Rewrite, shorten, adjust tone, summarize, or explain selected text using Apple Intelligence and Foundation Models support when available.

Review before replacing text

Generated Smart Actions open in a review sheet first, so the document changes only after you approve the replacement.

Movable editor toolbar

The editor toolbar now defaults to a cleaner right-side rail and can move to the right, left, top, or bottom edge from View > Toolbar Edge.

Dirty-tab markers

Unsaved tabs show an asterisk after the tab name, making changed documents easier to spot before you save.

Explicit window sizing

Window > Set Window Size... adds direct width and height controls for the active editor window.

Clear availability states

Smart Actions report unavailable, disabled, failed, and selection-size states clearly, leaving documents unchanged when model support is unavailable.

Smart Actions

Editing help, kept inside the macOS workflow.

  • Tools menu, editor toolbar, context menu, and in-place selection access
  • Rewrite, concise, friendly, professional, summarize, and explain actions
  • On-device model workflow when Apple Intelligence support is available

Earlier Releases

Earlier features stay with the release that introduced them.

OnEdit 2.1

Preview and file handling

OnEdit 2.1 sharpened Markdown preview, Mermaid rendering, SQL handling, and active-window file opening.

  • Mermaid preview now renders Mermaid diagrams and adds Mermaid image export actions.
  • Markdown code blocks render more reliably in preview, improving fidelity for fenced content.
  • SQL files now benefit from syntax highlighting and app file associations.
  • External file opens now prefer the active window when possible, reducing duplicate windows.

OnEdit 2.0

Markdown Workbench and productivity

OnEdit 2.0 introduced executable Markdown workflows, copy history tools, interface refinements, and faster editing.

  • New Markdown Workbench: Run trusted Markdown code fences in bash, python, and node, then keep output plus receipt history.
  • New Copy History Tools: Paste your most recent copy, browse recent snippets, and open a quick copy-history picker near the caret.
  • Refined Interface: Updated toolbar styling, improved sidebar and theme handling, and better text contrast in dark mode.
  • Faster Editing: Performance improvements for syntax highlighting, search responsiveness, line numbers, and large-folder loading.
